Who Is Suits For Sir?

Suits For Sir was founded in late 2010 and is owned by Manor Formalwear.

What Does Suits For Sir Do?

After extensive research it was identified that few if any mens clothing departments in High Street stores are trained to measure gentlemen for suits, shirts or trousers.

Suits For Sir is a training facility for staff members to learn how to measure a gentleman properly for suits, shirts and trousers. It also advises on which accessories to use.

Suits For Sir is designed to give a step by step guide to the correct way to measure suits.

Where Is Suits For Sir?

Suits For Sir is located in Coleraine, Northern Ireland. We are based in Unit 72, Loughan Hill Estate on the Ring Road around Coleraine.

How To Measure For A Suit

In this section you will learn, step by step, the correct way to measure a gentleman for a suit by following the steps below.

Difficulty Rating

  • Jacket Length

Measuring the Chest

• Measure around the chest and body at its fullest part (typically right under the armpits and shoulder blades).

• Hold the tape against the body tight enough so that it does not slip down, but not so tight that it restricts breathing. You should be able to fit two fingers between the tape and the body, it should be "snug".

• Make sure the tape is horizontal and the person's arms are by their side; then take a normal breath and measure.

• Double check this measurement.

Measuring the Waist

• Measure around the fullest part of the waist/stomach or right below the bottom ribs, whichever is greater.

Measuring the Arm Length

• Measure down six inches from the collar to to reach the half back position.

• Instruct the gentleman to hold his arm up horizontal with the elbow at a ninety degree angle.

• Measure from the half back position to the seem of the sleeve, continue to measure to the elbow and then to the wrist allowing an inch.

• Measure straight down the back from the base of the neck to their knuckle.

How To Measure For A Shirt

In this section you will learn, step by step, the correct way to measure a gentleman for a shirt.

Measuring the Collar

• This measurement should be taken along the lower section of the neck, below the Adams Apple and above the Sternal Notch.

• The tape should be comfortably touching the skin, with enough room so that two fingers will fit between the neck and the tape.

How To Measure Trousers

Measuring the Waist

• Measure around your waist at the level where you would normally wear your trouser belt.

• With the tape measure snug around the waist, get the gentleman to relax, and take the measurement.

• Don't be alarmed if this measurement seems larger than expected; off-the-rack trousers are normally labeled as being smaller than what they really are.

How to Measure the Inside Leg

• Measure from the lowest part of your crotch area to the floor.

• Make sure the tape is tight along the inside of the leg, that they are standing straight, and then measure.
